2012 SESSIONS
Wired for Change: The Neuroscience of Social Progress
Location: Lecture Theatre 5
Do our brains get in the way of solving complex social challenges? We build our view of the world on relatively simple interactions, but from this emerges extremely complex net behaviour. Our brains are like plastic, able to be moulded and shaped. Humans can and should learn how to navigate this behavioural system to create the world we want. Using key examples and a view into stunning, state of the art technologies, leading neuroscientists will share how behaviour is linked to emotional stimulus and how to establish principles of conflict resolution that have a “grounded truth” in neuroscience principles.
Speakers: Tali Sharot, Joy Hirsch, Michael Häusser, Maurice Biriotti, Sarah J. Caddick

Your Brain In Action: The Neuroscience Of Social Change
Success in implementing social change depends on motivating the broader public to act. To do this we must effectively communicate the reasons for change and the consequences of our actions. This session will explore the neuroscience and psychology of the complex processes that determine how people act. Three esteemed scientists will share theoretical and practical knowledge garnered from their research to help social entrepreneurs understand how to better communicate to catalyse positive change.
