Sunstruck with d.lights in California

CEO, D.light Design
For anyone who happened to be on or around the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco on April 9, you might have seen an unusual sight: Over 100 people people crossing the bridge after sunset, carrying… candles? flashlights? No, they were carrying d.light S10s, forming the world’s first ever solar lantern parade!
Kudos to d.light supporter Marissa Muller, who turned her birthday celebration into a community event called Sun Struck, to raise awareness about solar lighting and to raise funds for d.light partner Kopernik, which is providing solar lights for extremely poor families in East Timor.
Thanks to Marissa and the more than 100 participants, they raised $4,000. That’s enough money to give life-changing light to over 130 families! Participants had so much fun that there is even talk of making this an annual event.
I love hearing stories like this. It just goes to show how a little creativity and energy can go a long ways toward making a difference. And it reminds me that d.light can’t do our work alone.
We’ve got a big job on our hands, with our goal of providing bright solar light for hundreds of millions of households. But there are lots of ways you can participate and help make this happen–just ask Marissa.
